Project Tasty Yacon
Yacon is a brand-new, relatively unknown agricultural crop. Turning it into a household name is only possible by giving this product a whole new identity.
This project won a 26,000 euro grant from PlattelandPlus, a rural economy scheme by the Province of Limburg and the Flemish Government. Together with the Municipality of Kinrooi and Agropolis, a total of 40,000 euros was invested to bring Kinrooi-grown yacon to market.
One of the outcomes of the project was the decision to rebrand Kinrooi-grown yacon as “Tasty Yacon” — a name that covers everything you need to know all at once: yacon is a tasty, fresh root vegetable with a pleasant bite. A logo has also been developed, and recipes have been published in the form of how-to videos and recipe cards — all of which can be found on www.tastyyacon.be.
The freshest roots are available for sale to individuals and businesses at the ‘t Bommesaerke farm shop run by the Henckens-Snijkers family at the following address: Leo Henckens and Carine Snijkers, Kessenicherweg 27, 3640 Kinrooi
